Frequently Asked Questions
About the ULTRAcard

Do I need to change my long distance service at home?
No. The calling card is a stand-alone card. It is separate from your home phone service. You don't need to change your home long distance carrier.
What extra charges or fees are involved?
None. The calling card is FREE. There are no monthly minimum usage requirements, no monthly billing fees, and NO SURCHARGES added to any of your domestic calls (unlike AT&T, MCI, and Sprint).
What is the cost for intrastate calls?
INTERSTATE refers to calls made from state to state. INTRASTATE refers to calls made within a specific state. The 13.9¢ per minute flat rate applies for both state-to-state and in-state calls. Please keep in mind that there are absolutely no surcharges ever on any interstate or intrastate calls, so the savings are very substantial.
Can I apply for the calling card over the phone?
ATN needs your signature on the Enrollment Order Form which you can send in by mail or fax.
How do I make a phone call?
It's quick and easy! Just dial the toll-free access number, enter the number you are trying to reach, and then dial your personal authorization number to start the call. This ensures that you get charged the low rates you expect, and your call is put through quickly and efficiently.
How long will it take to receive the calling card?
After ATN receives your application, it takes 10-14 days to process your order and produce your personalized calling card.
Can I use the calling card to call a computer BBS?
Yes, simply enter the phone number like this:
9,18002751234,07135559999,12345678901234
(Each comma equals a two second pause.)
What about international calls?
In your welcome letter from the carrier, you will be given information on how to activate international calling. Calling foreign countries from the US with your calling card is a free option which can quickly be activated once you receive your card. See the International Rates section.
What are some of the other features?
MESSAGE SERVICE: This is a very exciting feature. If the number you dialed is busy or there is no answer, you have the option (for a minimal additional charge) to leave your message on a recording; the computer will call the party you were trying to reach and play back your message.
MULTIPLE CALLS: You may make more than one phone call after entering your calling card number just once.

About the ULTRAcall 1+ Program ...

Is there a charge to hook up to this service?
There may be a one-time fee charged by your local phone company, typically $5.00. However, you can be reimbursed (maximum of $5.00 per line, up to five lines), so changing to ULTRAcall 1+ is essentially free, and the savings begin from there.
How does ULTRAcall compare with Sprint Sense?
Sprint's advertised "dime-a-minute" rate only applies during their off-peak hours (7:00 pm - 7:00 am). The Sprint Sense peak rate is 25¢ per minute.* ATN's ULTRAcall 8.9¢ rate is 24 hours per day.

* Sprint's new 10¢ per minute/24 hours per day plan is only to the ONE person you call most often. Most of us want rates that will save us money on ALL our calls.

Sprint bills in full minutes. ULTRAcall bills in 6-second increments.
How does ULTRAcall compare with AT&T's "One Rate" plan?
AT&T is 15¢/min, 24 hours/day, calls within the continental USA.*
ATN's ULTRAcall 8.9¢ rate is 24 hours/day (a 34% savings!).

* AT&T's "One-Rate" plan does not apply to calls to Alaska and Hawaii. With ULTRAcall 1+ you pay the same low rates when placing calls to any of the 50 states.
AT&T bills in full minutes. ULTRAcall bills in 6-second increments.

What does full minute billing mean to you? It means that if your call lasts even one second beyond a minute increment, it will be rounded up to the next full minute. Six second billing means that a 4 second call will be billed at just 6 seconds - not one minute. And a one minute 3 second call will be billed at one minute 6 seconds - not 2 full minutes. (Savings range from 5%-45%!
About the ULTRACall Toll Free Program ...

Will my toll free number be published?
No. Only you decide who will have your toll free number.
What if I already have an 800/877/888 number?
ATN can switch your current 800/877/888 number to the ULTRAcall toll free number program, except if your current number requires a PIN code. Those numbers can't be switched. Indicate your current number on the enrollment form and ATN will start the process. Additional paperwork is required and the switch-over could take up to 30 days, so please be patient.
